We appeared on the programme with Joan Baez, John Martyn, Andy Shepherd and David Gray. We refused to take part in the hippy communal jam at the beginning of the show. Joan Baez liked my black T-shirt with a green gun and the slogan ‘Green Piece’ written on it. And when John Martyn broke into ‘May You Never’, it all came back: those acid, stoner parties of the eighties back in Oxfordshire, where Martyn’s Solid Air album was on continuous repeat.
